Dao Huy Hung’s Story

Hung story

Dao Huy Hung is a fourth grade student, who usually goes to school alone on his X-game bike while his parents work.

On April 10, 2010, Hung was hit by a motorbike on his way home from school while trying to cross the street on his bike. Hung fell from his bike and fainted from pain as his head hit the road. He was hospitalized by school teachers and his parent.

Luckily, the doctors found Hung had no serious injuries and he only had to stay in the hospital for couple of days before returning to school. The doctor said the helmet, worn in the proper way, protected him from head trauma and other serious injuries.

Hung will be in the fifth grade in school this year. He is full of hope for his future. “Next time, I will be more careful when riding home and always put on helmet. Thanks so much for the helmet. You and your helmet saved my life,” Hung shared.

Vietnam's Roads Claim Another Young Victim

Once in awhile, the nature of our work hits home in personal ways. It is no longer just a “statistic”. One of my 'children'- a member of AIPF's Helmets for Kids program - died in a motorcycle crash in HCMC during Tet. 8-year old Le Xuan Han was killed while riding with her parents and sister to visit her grandmother.
